Peter started in 2002 after his fruit trees weren't pollinated, and has since expanded to 16 colonies. He'll bring a teaching hive and handouts. The Hierarchy of the Hunt: 18th Century British Sporting Art
Presented by Jeffrey W. Allison - Paul Mellon Collection Educator, VMFA
English nobility's enthusiasm for field sports was at its height during the 18th century. The growing passion for foxhunting and horseracing led to a new trend in art: paintings of British society engaged in outdoor pursuits. This lecture looks at a variety of artists from the Paul Mellon collection, including Stubbs, Wootton, Reinagle, Calcraft- Turner, and Pollard.

This Century Art Gallery and the library continue this popular art lecture series which is made possible through the Gallery's partnership program with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. A reception provided by This Century Art Gallery will follow.
